NPDES Stormwater Program | Newark, DE

Must Read

Applebees Dumpster

The City of Newark has joined forces with the University of Delaware in developing a stormwater management program. Our program is in response to the Environmental Protection Agency requirement that entities with less than 100,000 in population have National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit coverage for their storm sewer system by March 10, 2003.

Key Elements of Program

Our stormwater program has six key elements to it:

  • Construction Site Runoff Controls
  • Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination
  • Pollution Prevention/Good Housekeeping for Municipal Operations
  • Post-Construction Runoff Controls
  • Public Education and Outreach
  • Public Involvement and Participation

What We Strive to Accomplish

Together we hope to improve the quality of stormwater runoff reaching our creeks and tributaries. Stopping pollution at its source is the most effective way to prevent harmful pollutants from being washed by stormwater runoff into our storm drains, and ultimately, our creeks and tributaries.
