For the past several years, South Milwaukee police officers have partnered with the South Milwaukee Walmart and South Milwaukee Human Concerns for a “Shop with a Cop” event. Through donations from Walmart and other sponsors, the South Milwaukee Police Department (SMPD) is able to take a group of less fortunate children to Walmart to shop for gifts for their families. The children, who are generally under ten years-of-age, are selected through a needs-based application process with South Milwaukee Human Concerns, and they enjoy a fun shopping spree and Christmas party with SMPD Officers. They eat, wrap gifts, play games, and even get to meet Santa Claus!
